DJ Cer

I was born in Santiago Chile. We were 2 brothers in a small family with my mom, my grandmother, and grandfather. Ever since I can remember I used to buy records by borrowing money from my brother. Later on I began doing remixes and recording them onto cassette tapes, which I loved. I’m the youngest brother, proud to be a Borgoñino (the high school of my brother and I). I studied to be a sound technician and graduated in 1990, finding my dream job at a radio station in Santiago (Nucleo Portales). I worked there for 2 years starting in 1990 and at some other radio stations in Santiago like, Carolina FM and Sintonia FM. I then moved to the USA in 1992 finding it hard to get a job in the recording industry or at a radio station due to the language barrier. After long hours and no sleep at the ESL school I learned English and started to work in a recording studio in the Valley Area, Van Nuys CA, in 1995. The studio was called “Soundabout”. While I was still working odd jobs to support my family in 1998 I started working as a Runner/Helper in one of the biggest studios in Los Angeles and probably the world, the famous “Westlake Studios”. Home to one of the biggest pop records ever made, the album Thriller, by Michael Jackson in 1982. I later became an Assistant Engineer working on a lot of big records; and met with what I call my mentor in Sound Engineering, Mr. Humberto Gatica, winner of more than 5 Grammy’s as Engineer/Producer. Here are some of my credits as Assistant Engineer:

- Alvaro Torres - ”En Busca del Amor” 1996
- Juan Gabriel & Rocio Durcal - ”Juntos otra vez” 1997
- Patricia Manterola - ”Quiero mas” 1998
- Lace - ”Lace” 1999
- Franco - ”Asi soy yo” 2000
- Richard Marx - ”Days in Avalon” 2000
- NSYNC - ”No strings attached” 2000
- Glen Hughes - ”Return of crystal Karma” 2000
- AJ Croce - ”Transit” 2000
- La Ley - Uno 2000
- La Ley - Esencial 2001
- Carole King - ”Love makes the world” 2002
- Café Quijano - ”Taberna del buda” 2001
- Los Tucanes de Tijuana - ”Jugo a la vida” 2002
- Maid in Manhattan - ”Original Soundtrack” 2002
- Nick Carter - ”Now or Never” 2002
- Juan Luis Guerra - ”Para ti” 2004
- Kenny G - ”Greatest Holiday classics” 2005
- Van Hunt - ”Van Hunt” 2004

After leaving Westlake in 2006, I married my beautiful wife Ivette, but still wanted to be part of the recording industry. I joined the team of Technicolor Audio Services in 2006 continuing to do music, but not necessarily in the music industry since it became a bit unstable for me and had changed from what it used to be. I became inspired about being a DJ again after visiting a club in Santa Monica with friends and hearing the DJ there. I thaught “this can not be, if that guy calls himself a Dj then could I can be Spiderman.” In the beginning of 2005 I started buying equipment and learning how to approach booking weddings / quinceañeras. At that time I worked for a big DJ company in Orange County, where I learned a lot about weddings and quinceañeras. I started doing company picnics and a club called RIO in Encino, CA and the rest has been history with doing weddings, quinceañeras, private parties, and events of all kind. Some people may say, “Why do you love playing and making people dance?” First, because It’s a challenge to make different types of crowds dance. Second, I’m not afraid of playing something that nobody expects to hear, of course within limits and at the appropriate moments…That’s DJ CER…The Difference, someone with taste, an overall knowledge of music, and a love for it since I was 6 years old.
